The largest earthquake ever recorded in Haiti rocked the area near its capital of Port-au-Prince Tuesday, causing what officials described as "total disaster and chaos" in the already impoverished nation. The Red Cross estimates that as many as 50,000 may have died in the 7.0-magnitude earthquake.
